i’m grieving the hate crimes, the lives lost,
the times i’ve been called a racist name,
been made fun of,
been asked where I’m from,
been fetishized,
been forced to serve,
been told to submit,
been spoken over,
been silenced,
been ignored,
been erased.

i’m grieving the way i’m pitted against my Black brothers and sisters,
the way whites don’t take responsibility,
the way whites are protected,
the way the media perpetuates racism,
the way words are abused,
the way the world is reactive,
the way individualism trumps unity,
the way hate trumps empathy,

let me be.
